CFBISD encourages students to complete FAFSA applications during Scholarship Awareness Month

November is Scholarship Awareness Month, making it an ideal time for seniors to begin planning how to secure financial aid for life after graduation. Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is not only a graduation requirement; it is key to unlocking federal grants, loans, work-study programs, and many state and institutional scholarships.

This year, Texas’s FAFSA priority deadline is Jan. 15. Because some funding is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD encourages students and families to submit their applications as early as possible.

To support families and improve completion rates, CFBISD counselors are available on all campuses to provide hands-on assistance with FAFSA submissions and scholarship searches. Students should schedule time with their counselor and gather the financial documents required for the application. The district is also partnering with Dallas County Promise to ensure students receive targeted, individualized support.

“Our district is proud to be an early adopter for partnership with Dallas County Promise,” said Chad Hunter, CFBISD executive director of advanced academic services. “Through this collaboration, we can support our students with everything they need for enrollment and postsecondary success.”

Beyond federal aid, thousands of scholarships at the local and national levels are available to students. The CFBISD Educational Foundation also offers scholarship opportunities for juniors and seniors. Students may explore additional scholarships through online resources such as College Board, Sallie, My Texas Future, and Scholarships.com.
